Vegan, Eco-Friendly Inventions We’re Excited About
Let’s face it - plastic is an unavoidable evil we encounter (and use) on an everyday basis. Plastic - particularly single-use plastic - has a horrible impact on this Earth and the animals we share this planet with. It's estimated that 91% of plastic isn't recycled. Sadly, items not properly disposed of find their way to rivers, streams and oceans, threatening the lives of animals. Unless you’re living a zero-waste lifestyle, you’re contributing to the problem. The good news: there are products we can choose that make a difference! Whether you're vegan or an environmentalist, you'll love these innovative, up-and-coming inventions that aim to fight the plastic crisis!
What is Bite Toothpaste? Bite is a small, chewable tablet that foams up in your mouth and allows you to brush as you regularly would with normal toothpaste. What makes Bite so fun and unique is that they are individually portioned and come housed in eco-friendly glass bottles (the refill pack is 100% recyclable!). Bonus: they deliver straight to your door! Not only are they a vegan company, but Bite Toothpaste Bits are also made in a Leaping Bunny certified lab that fights against animal testing. Skipping Rocks Lab is a London-based startup that harnessed the power of plants and seaweed to create an edible water pod called Ooho! Yep, you guessed it - the pods are biodegradable! If you don’t want to eat the pod after consumption of the water, it will break down in 4-6 weeks similar to the breakdown time of fruit. The flavorless pods can be colored and flavored and can also house liquids other than water including sodas, spirits, and even beauty products. The flexible seaweed based material is said to be cheaper to produce than plastic and could be the number one contributor to fighting plastic bottle pollution in the future. Ooho has yet to be sold in the public market but they're being showcased at events, conferences and festivals around the globe. Keep an eye out the next time you’re at an eco event. Hopefully, we will see them on grocery shelves in the very near future! Learn more HERE.
Benjamin Stern, founder of NOHBO, was inspired from the single-use laundry detergent pods he watched his mom use to wash laundry. From there, he grew a team of scientists, sales and financial directors, and other like-minded wizards to develop the most perfect, little, eco-friendly hair-washing pod to grace this Earth. The idea was so smart that it secured investment on the show Shark Tank back in 2016. NOHBO pods are vegan, US based, paraben & sulphate free, water soluble and scented with essential oils. If you subscribe to their newsletter, you can stay up-to-date on when you can purchase these innovative little pods … or even be of the lucky few who are the first to try them this fall! What makes this product a home run for the environment is that not only are the pods eco-friendly, but their packaging is plastic-free and biodegradable. Find all the details HERE.
SUCK RESPONSIBLY WITH FINALSTRAW
I think nearly everyone saw that viral video of the plastic straw lodged in the nasal cavity of a helpless sea turtle that had to be removed by pliers. Since then, there has been a global awareness for single-use plastic straws. Over 500 million plastic straws are used in the US alone on a daily basis. Because of the size profile of straws, they cannot be recycled and become a life-threatening hazard for animals of all kinds. The FinalStraw is a compact stainless steel straw that folds up inside of a small container (made from recycled plastic!) that clips to your keys and transports anywhere you go! When you find yourself at a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, or anyplace else that doesn’t already offer reusable straws, decline their single-use straw and whip out your sea turtle saving straw! Patent is pending on the FinalStraw and is slated to ship out November of this year! Order yours HERE.

Little changes every day does have a lasting impact on the Earth and never feel that your contribution alone is not enough. Keep fighting for a healthier planet and future!
